Attorneys are required to take 25 hours of MCLE every three years. Requirements include the following:

  • At least 4 credit hours of legal ethics.
  • At least 2 credit hours dealing with the elimination of bias. Of the two hours, at least one hour must focus on implicit bias and the promotion of bias-reducing strategies.
  • At least two credit hours addressing competence. (one hour of which must focus on prevention and detection; “Competence Issues,” and one hour of which may focus on attorney wellness; “Wellness Competence.”)
  • At least 1 credit hour of addressing technology in the practice of law.
  • At least 1 credit hour of addressing civility in the legal profession.

  • At least 2 credit hours in equity, diversity, and inclusivity
  • At least 5 credit hours in the areas of legal ethics or legal professionalism.

All actively licensed attorneys who are required to comply with Colorado’s CLE requirements - in all compliance periods - must comply with this requirement.

Florida

MCLE Rule Summary

Every member must complete a minimum of 30 credit hours every three years. Requirements include the following:

  • At least 3 credit hours must be in approved technology programs
  • At least 5 credit hours must be in approved legal ethics, professionalism, substance abuse, or mental health and wellness; as part of the 5 credit hours, each member must complete, during each reporting cycle, the two-credit hour Florida Legal Professionalism course produced by The Florida Bar and approved by the Supreme Court of Florida.

All compliance credits outside the two-credit hour Florida Legal Professionalism and the Florida Basic Skills Course Requirements may be earned through interactive computer-based credit on LegalEdge. Excess credits cannot be carried over to the next reporting cycle.

These minimum 6 hours shall include either completing the Rule 795(d)(11) yearlong Lawyer-to-Lawyer Mentoring Program or at least one hour in the area of diversity and inclusion AND at least one hour in the area of mental health and substance abuse. All 30 credits may be earned online at LegalEdge. There is a separate MCLE requirement for newly admitted attorneys.
