Illinois - New Admittee

MCLE Rule Summary

Within the first year, newly admitted attorneys must complete 15 accredited hours of the attorney’s choosing, plus either:

  • An approved Basic Skills course
  • Or completing a mentoring program approved by the Commission on Professionalism.

Program Qualifications

Credits qualified to be earned through LegalEdge based on course type. The requirement for newly admitted attorneys includes three elements: 

  1. A Basic Skills course approved for Newly Admitted Attorneys for 6 professional responsibility credits is available on LegalEdge.
  2. At least 9 additional hours of MCLE credit. These 9 hours may include any number of hours approved for professional responsibility credit. These 9 credits may be satisfied through live webcast and on demand programs at LegalEdge.
  3. Reporting to the MCLE Board as required by Rule 796.

Attendance Reporting Procedure

LegalEdge reports attendance the month following program completion. Attorneys must verify their 7-digit ARDC# within LegalEdge to ensure timely reporting. Go to the My Profile link on the upper left-hand side, click on the “Update your bar admission and membership information” link to edit your license info.

Tuition Assistance

LegalEdge has full and partial scholarships available for low-income and unemployed attorneys, legal aid and government attorneys, judicial clerks, and employees of nonprofit organizations.
